Study on the Animal Candlesticks Riding by Celadon Barbarians in Jin and Related Issues

摘要 山东洗砚池晋墓出土青瓷胡人骑神兽器物与故宫博物院所藏的一件同类器物,皆为西晋时期南方越窑所产的青瓷精品,其性质为烛台,东汉以后世家大族与士大夫对蜡烛的普遍使用是此类精致的青瓷烛台流行的时代背景。胡人骑神兽造型在东汉时期的器座、画像上已经较为常见。汉晋时期流行的神仙信仰中以西方的昆仑和西王母为中心,同时早期佛教也附会入西方的神仙信仰中,胡人也被看作与西方的神仙信仰相关,有些被表现为仙人。 A celadon artifact depicting ahuren(western looking person) riding a divine creature was un- earthed from the Jin tomb located at Xiyanchi, Shandong Province. Like a similar celadon work collected in the Palace Museum in Beijing, this artifact represents the exquisiteness of the celadon products of the Yue kilns in the Western Jin time. The artifact was used as a candlestick, which was a popular item among the aristocrats and literati during the Eastern Hanperiod and on when candles became commonly used. Similar forms had been broadly seen in utensil bottoms or paintings in the Eastern Han. The belief in deities and im- mortals thatwas widely practiced by people of the Han and Jin times rendered the Kunlun Mountain and the Queen Mother of the West (Xiwangmu), both embody the West, as the central subjects; the early Buddhism was blended into such belief; Huren-s were linked to such belief due to their western looking and were some- times represented as immortals.
