The present study aims to highlight fragmentary writing in the works of Toussaint. Fragmentary writing not only destroys the classical romantic, but also reflects the central problem of modernity, namely, the disappearance of the totality. If our era is no longer able to construct a given totality, literature should,on one hand, highlight this impossibility, and on the other, try hard to reach the unity through artistic creation. How to balance the two? How to give the reader a glimmer of hope of the unity while rejecting the illusive totality? It is one of the delicate tasks to be assumed by contemporary writers, and also the problematic subject of our study.
