Two Types of Rebirth in the Han and Jin Dynasties

汉晋之间,产生不少复生传闻。这些复生传闻大致可归为两类:一类与阴阳五行天人感应思想有关,涉及当时现实政治问题;一类与道教房中修炼观念有关。理清这些问题,对于我们正确解读、阐释魏晋南北朝志怪小说是有益的。

There were many rumors of rebirth in the Han and Jin dynasties, which can be categorized into two types： one related to yin-yang, five elements, and heaven-human induction, concerning the realpolitik issues of that time; the other related to the Taoist ideas on sexual behavior. It is useful to settle these issues for better understanding and elucidation of the classical eccentric and ghost novels in the Wei and Jin dynasties and the Northern and Southern dynasties.
