概念隐喻翻译的认知语言学视角——以2014年奥巴马国情咨文翻译为例

Research on Translating Conceptual Metaphors from the Perspective of Cognitive Linguistics——A Case of Obama's State of the Union Address of 2014

在Lakoff概念隐喻理论框架下,对美国总统奥巴马2014年发表的国情咨文中使用的概念隐喻进行了分析、研究,认为其报告主要诉诸了"旅程隐喻"、"建筑隐喻"、"比赛隐喻"、"家庭隐喻"、"宗教隐喻"以及"商业隐喻"等六种概念隐喻。根据Mandelblit的"认知翻译假设",我们提出了在"相似映射条件(SMC)"和"不同映射条件(DMC)"两种情景下处理奥巴马国情咨文中所涉及的概念隐喻的翻译策略。

Based Conceptual Metaphor Theory by Lakoff,the present paper makes an attempt to analyze the conceptual metaphors applied in Obama’s State of the Union Address in 2014. It is found that journey metaphors,building metaphors,family metaphors,race metaphors,religion metaphors,business metaphors and religion metaphors find their way in Obama’s speech. According to the Cognitive Translation Hypothesis proposed by Mandelblit,the co- authors of the this paper proposed some translation strategies for the six kinds of metaphors under two conditions,namely the ＂similar mapping condition＂（ SMC） and the ＂different mapping condition＂（ DMC）. It is concluded by claiming that our research is of some implication to foreign language teaching in China,translation studies and cognitive linguistics.
