Pearl Buck's appreciation and admiration of Chinese classical literary work Water Margin drove her into translating it into English as All Men Are Brothers. The novel produced profound influence on her,which had been reflected in a series of her Chinese-themed works. Many plots in the Chinese novel could be found in her subsequent writings,such as focusing on the bottom of society,enforcing justice on behalf of Heaven,upholding the spirit of justice,as well as valiant and murderous atmosphere carried by those bandits and robbers. When writing about Chinese Civil War and the War of Resistance against Japan,both of which Pearl Buck lacked direct experience,the author drew literary nutrition and inspiration from Water Margin. In addition,many of Pearl Buck's literary imagination on Chinese politics and even the whole country were impacted by the work.
