Knowing oneself and his surroundings are two basic dimensions for constructing self- identity. For Empire immigrants of Canada, they were not troubled with "Who am I?" due to their "central illusion" of the Empire. But when they settled down on the wild land of America with such " pseudo consciousness" of "Empire mirror image", they actually discovered the truth of being marginalized with the question of "Where am I?" Thus, the certainty of knowing who they were encountered the uncertainty of knowing where they were, which constructed an intrinsic proposition for Canadian identity.
