林黛玉家产问题考辨

On Lin Daiyu's Family Property

从《红楼梦》对黛玉进贾府等内容的描写和林黛玉"一无所有"的表白不难看出,林家不可能有"三二百万"的巨额财产,同时也就不存在贾琏侵吞(挪用)林黛玉家产建大观园的问题。贾琏说"这会子再发个三二百万的财就好了"只是表明因为贾府花项太多,正常的收入已不足以应付,所以希望发个财以应付庞大的开销,和所谓"黛玉家产"无关。

From the description of Lin Daiyu＇ s entering the Jia Manor and her own claim of the penniless situation, we can see that it is impossible for the Lin family to possess a huge amount of property amounting to 2 or 3 million of money. Therefore, it is ap- parent that Jia Lian is not likely to embezzle （appropriate） Lin Daiyu＇ s property to construct the Ta Kuan Garden as described in A Dream of Red Mansions. The fact that Jia Lian says that ＂If only we could collect another sum of 2 or 3 million shows that he hopes to make a fortune to cope with the immense expenditures of the big family because the Jia Manor spends so much that the nor- mal income is not adequate enough to match the budget. That is, it is not related to the so-called ＂Lin Daiyu＇ s family property＂.
