After the Kuomintang founded its regime in Nanjing in 1927, slogans were put forward and measures adopted to control the press and publication, thus clamping down on public opinions and thoughts. These rules and regulations mainly censored the publications of the CPC and the left-wing literature. However, it turned out that these measures triggered strong resistance from all walks of life, and unexpectedly aroused people’s interest in the CPC and progressive publications.
