土家族作家蔡测海的作品中描画的是停滞封闭的湘西社会生活,在其宁谧静穆表象下有着种种冲突,现代文明从外部冲击旧生活旧观念并使之急遽蜕变,文明与野蛮的冲突最明显地表现在人们对传统习俗的恪守与批判上。其作品建构了一个徘徊与躁动、惶惑与迷失的湘西,于"出走"这一母题中呈现出深邃的生命哲思。

Tujia ethnic novelist,Cai Cehai＇s literary works has displayed the stagnant and closed social life in Western Hunan. There is a wide variety of conflicts hidden in its tranquil and solemn appearance,as the modern civilization has been significantly shocking the old life and old traditions,making them change dramatically. The conflict between civilization and savage is predominantly reflected in that the people criticize and meanwhile have to abide by the old traditional customs. In his literary works,Cai constructs a wandering,restless,perplexing and losing Western Hunan and in the meantime,in the motif of ＂running away＂,it has reflected deep and profound philosophical thinking of life.
