To Escape the Trap of University Rankings Indicators

目前的多数研究没有正确认识和辩证处理大学的可排名性与复杂性之间的矛盾,使大学排行榜落入指标陷阱。排名数据的精确性与大学质量的模糊性之间的矛盾、核心教育产出难以用客观指标的精确数据表达的矛盾、大学排行榜指标的统一性与大学异质性之间的矛盾,是大学排行榜必须面对的现实。大学排行榜实施的根本前提是依据大学职能定位的大学分类,而且大学排行榜只能是其价值观的体现,需要公布明确的使用目的和使用说明,在此前提下探索大学排行榜的合理指标结构。

Most of the current researches haven＇t correctly understood and dialectically dealt with the contradiction between the possibility and complexity of university rankings, which causes the rankings to fall into the indicators trap. What university rankings must face are the contradictions between accuracy of ranking data and ambiguity of university quality, unity of ranking indicators and university heterogeneity, and the one of difficulty in objectively indicating the core educational output with accurate data. The implementing premise of university rankings lie in the classification basing on university function orientation. Rankings only reflect their own values. The purpose and instruction should be clearly published, under which to explore a reasonable indicator structure of university rankings is feasible.
