The Preliminary Development of the Defense Relationship Between US and PRC During the Nixon Administration

伴随美中关系解冻及初步进展,两国在外交折冲的同时就一些防务议题谨慎互动、初步协作。尽管尼克松政府对华战略提防及军事斗争准备依旧,但以对苏情报交流、对华技术转让及地区危机处理等为主要内容的美中防务关系却在特殊历史条件下肇始,并成为稳定双边关系的独特动力。由于两国高层就定位双边防务关系存在抵牾,美中防务关系至尼克松政府晚期遇困。美中防务关系是美国"联华制苏"现实主义战略的有机组成部分,助推了美中关系的发展,其发生发展凸显出尼克松政府时期美中关系的阶段性历史特征。

As the relationship between US and China unfrozen, the two government started to negotiate some issues on defense affairs and initiated certain cooperation. Although the Nixon administration still took precautions against China, the defense relationship which contains information exchange, transfer of technology and handling of critical incidents stabilized and promoted the bilateral relations. However, due to the different understandings of the orientation of the defense relationship, the defense relations between two nations encountered setbacks during the last phase of Nixon administration. The development of the defense relations between US and China was part of the strategy of uniting China against USSR. It can also reflect the interim features of US-China relations during the Nixon administration.
