Objective: To research the relationship of biological characteristics between the large RCC and small RCC and the expression of MMP-3 and CXCR4. Methods: We chosed cases with small and large renal cell carcinoma from June 2004 to December 2010 in Shanghai NO.1 Hospital. The expression of CXCR4 and MMP-3 were detected by immunohistochemistry on normal renal tissue(20),small RCC(30) and large RCC(30). Results: The expressions of MMP-3 and CXCR4 in RCC are higher than in normal tissue(P〈0.01).The expressions of MMP-3 and CXCR4 in large RCC is higher than in small RCC(P〈0.05). It is positively related between the expressions of MMP-3 and CXCR4 in RCC. Conclusions: The lower expressions of MMP-3 and CXCR4 in small RCC may predict the less possibility of invasion and metastasis and less malignant in small RCC. MMP-3 and CXCR4 may be valuable for predicting prognosis of renal cell cancer.
