Steady-state visual evoked potential( SSVEP) has been frequently used by Brain-Computer Interface( BCI) system due to high signal-noise ratio and easy analysis. The BCI is based on the modulation effect of attention on the SSVEP. Studies on the relation between attention and the SSVEP also lead to further understanding the neural mechanism of attention. In the present study, the classical SSVEP paradigm was used. Two sequences of letters were rapidly presented, each superimposed upon a small square background which was flickered at a rate of 9. 44 Hz or12. 14 Hz. The SSVEP was elicited by the flickers.Focus attention and divided attention were manipulated to investigate the relation between attentional distribution and SSVEP. Findings are as follows:( 1)the amplitude of the SSVEP was related to the deployment of the attentional resource, specifically, the more attentional resource deployed, the higher amplitude of the SSVEP was.( 2) The input of the SSVEP-based BCI could be increased by manipulating different attention situations( i. e. focused attention, divided attention vs. unattended attention).
