In a Special Feature ＇Strategic Transformation of Special Libraries＇, we tried to explore approaches and potentials to innovate special library services to support R＆D institutions in their serving national and regional development needs. We used the practices from the National Science Library （NSL） of Chinese Academy of Sciences （CAS） to demonstrate some of possibilities and, if I may, good practices.
