Salome,Oscar Wilde＇s one-act play,presents to readers a female image of strong subjective consciousness and great charm. The complicated ＂ gaze＂ in the play indicates entanglement of desires,operation of powers,and consciousness of identity.Based on the gaze theory and Foucault＇s micro-power mechanism,this paper tries to analyze how Salome struggles to fight against the phallocentric patriarchal gaze with the counter-gaze strategies that feature the use of the female body and discourse construction. Salome＇s struggle reveals the rebellious consciousness and fighting spirit of the marginal women,and provides a profound inspiration for dissolving phallocentric discourse and overthrowing a patriarchal culture.
