《水浒传》经典化地位的获得离不开无数后来读者的接受与改编。续作是名著经典化历程中不可或缺的必经环节,续作客观上促进了原著的普及化与经典化,并将续作者特有的时代、思想、经历累加于原作之上,使原作成为大众耳熟能详的经典名著。续作虽主要由同文体续书构成,但也应包含图像接受、戏剧再创作、评介争论、连环画乃至当下的影视改编等。从续作角度展开对经典著作的影响研究是深入发掘民族传统、发扬民族文化的必由之路。
