贞节观限定范围以外性活动的罪孽感,不但是造成窦娥悲剧的主要原因,而且是造成历史上无数“烈女贞妇”悲剧命运的重要因素。吴月娘内心深处潜藏着性饥渴意识,她的悲剧对中国古代妇女来说比潘金莲的悲剧更具普遍性。两人所恪守的信念,主要体现在对行善、贞节、业报轮回、善恶相报、天人感应等观念虔诚的信奉和强烈的责任感上。

Sexual activities against the concept of chastity bring about a strong sense of sin, which is not only the main cause of tragedy to Dou'e but also an important factor for the tragic fate to countless 'paragons of chastity' in history. At the bottom of her heart, Wu Yueniang has a hidden consciousness of sex thirst and this fact makes her tragedy more common to ancient Chinese women than that of Pan Jinlian. The beliefs these two women hold differ chiefly in their concepts of benevolence, chastity, Retribution and the interaction between Heaven and man, as well as in their sense of responsibility.
