摘要医学是《米德尔马契》中的重要主题之一。三种身体形态在小说中表现得极为突出,分别是病患的身体﹑死亡的身体﹑女性的身体。卡苏朋的心脏病是个人主义的悲剧,费瑟斯通死亡后展示了当时异化的群体,罗莎蒙德的流产事件暴露了个人私欲的野心,从而表达了爱略特对社会顽疾的批判,以及重构共同体的美好愿望。 Medicine is one of the most important themes in Middlemarch.Three kinds of bodies are very prominent in this novel：body with disease,dead body and female body.Casaubon＇s heart attack is the tragedy of egoism.Featherstone＇s dead body reveals the alienated community.Rosamond＇s abortion results from her ambition.Eliot critiques these social illnesses and desires for a new community.
