White Teeth, a maiden work of British woman novelist Zadie Smith, reveals the spatial structures of multiculturalism and the social tendency of ethnic hybidity in the city of London, involving characters of different cultures, races and religions, and reflects the life experiences of various immigrants in three historical stages of post-war period, the 1980s and the late 1990s through in-depth description of three British families with different backgrounds. By applying the humourous technique, Zadie Smith presents that the second generation of British post-war immigrants develop a sense of belonging and identity, violate racial boundaries, assert the cultural hybridity and identity, seek a foothold in multicultural society, and expand the spatial structures of inter and intra family relations.
