Zhi Li,a Buddhist thinker in North Song dynasty,applied the pursuit of consciousness and extrication in individual life activities to the specific undertakings of abotting the Tiantai Sect,studied the classics of the religion,preached its doctrines,cultivated his original nature faithfully,and composed elaborately,abiding by the practical principle of Tiantai Sect——exegesis and practice as an integrity.His elucidation of the philosophical thoughts of Tiantai Sect not only responded to some current Buddhism questions,but also made glow and continue the delicate model of thinking-with-Chinese created by Zhi Yi.He thus became a person cannot be neglected in the history of Buddhist ideas and the history of Chinese philosophy.The mission undertook by Zhi Li can only be accomplished in the appropriate conditions of a temple,which makes it necessary to study his life-long career of Buddhism exegesis and practice from the dimension of temple management or of his position as a temple abbot.
