Objective To study the relationship between social support and quality of life among people living with HIV / AIDS( PLWHA). Methods Three hundred sixty-three PLWHA were questioned to obtain information about social support and quality of life by using Social Support Rating Scale( SSRS) and WHOQOL-BREF. A canonical correlation analysis was used to explore the relationship between social support and quality of life. Results The canonical correlation was significant between social support and quality of life among PLWHA in Guangzhou( F = 2.72,P 0.05). Social support was mainly determined by subjective support and the availability of social support, while the quality of life was mainly reflected by psychological domain and social relationship. Conclusion The higher subjective support and availability may contribute to the better psychological health and social relationship among PLWHA in Guangzhou.
