《觚剩》并非单纯的笔记小说,其中有不少传记文学作品。这些作品在思想内容上关注女性,给予赞赏与同情;注重维系社会道德,褒扬忠贞;也揭露了科举弊端,同情士子。在艺术特色上,《觚剩》采用旁观视角,客观评论,使用以事托人、人诗相彰的表现手法,并且善于运用多种描写手段,传记人物形象突出。

Gusheng is not a simple story collection,which includes a lot of biographical literary works. With appreciation and sympathy,the works focuses on females in the ideological content and attaches importance to maintaining social morality,praising loyalty. Besides,it reveals the drawbacks of the imperial examination with sympathy on the scholars. While on the artistic characteristics,it gives the objective comments with outsider perspectives,expressed in the style of integrating poetry and event. It is also good at using a variety of descriptive techniques,leading to the clear and outstanding biographical characters.
