A Study on the book collection of Weng Family in Changshu

常熟翁氏家族在中国晚清政治、科举史上有着显赫的地位：父子宰相,同为帝师,三子公卿,四世翰苑,成为清代政坛之佳话;叔侄联魁,状元及第,四世五人,俱为进士,科举史上实属罕见。同时,常熟翁氏家族还是中国藏书史上著名的藏书世家。1907年6月,岛田翰在《皕宋楼藏书源流考并购获本末》称：“盖海内藏书之家,称四大家,近又加五：聊城杨氏,钱塘丁氏,常熟瞿氏,归安陆氏、宗氏、盛氏,德州徐氏,武进董氏,湘潭袁氏,常熟翁氏是也……叔平尚书、漱六太守，所积充初，几埒四家。”

Weng Family was eminent in Changshu in late Qing Dynasty. Their collection were passed down to six generations but were secret to the public since Weng Xincun. There is no lack of significant copies, the only existing copy and rare copies. Actually, he was an important bibliophile since Qing Dynasty. This article describes the generation of Weng Family and introduces eight versions of Song Dynasty collected by them.
