The Spatialization Turn in Contemporary Western Narrative Theory

20世纪以来,伴随社会巨变与科学研究的空间拓展,西方当代小说也呈现出了空间化的叙事倾向,以线性叙事为主的传统叙事学遭遇危机,空间化叙事理论得以建构。其理论形态主要体现在空间化叙事环境、空间化叙事语言、空间化叙事结构和空间与读者感知四个层面。作为一种前沿性理论与方法,西方叙事理论的空间化转向对当代叙事艺术的发展也产生了深远的影响。

Since the 20 th century,along with the radical social change and the spatial expansion in scientific research,a trend of space narration also appeared in Western contemporary fictions. The traditional linear narrative has encountered with crisis,while the theory of spatial narrative has been constructed. Its theoretic form is mainly embodied in the environment,language and structure of spatial narrative,as well as spatial sensation of readers. As a frontier theory and methodology,the spatialization turn in Western narrative theory has far- reaching influence on contemporary narrative artistry.
