The Significance of Chinese Pattern Study

中国图案学有它自身的体系与造物规律,它是研究与探讨中国传统造物思想和装饰理念的学科。中国图案学大致概括为"基础图案"和"工艺图案",至少包含了平面图案、立体图案、图案便化、图案色彩等方面的内容:《考工记》、《天工开物》、《营造法式》等文献是图案学的理论基础,是建构中国图案学的基本文献;中国传统造物器物以及纹饰奠定了图案学的研究方向与研究内容,由此也彰显出中国图案学在当今世界文化中的格局与学科意义。

Chinese pattern study is a discipline to explore the traditional Chinese thoughts of creation and ornamental concept with its own system and laws that can be generally classified as＂basic pattern＂and ＂art pattern＂,covering the plane pattern,tridimensional pattern,and the changes and colors in the patterns etc.Documents such as Book of Diverse Crafts（Kao-Gong-Ji）,Heavenly Creations（Tian-Gong-Kai-Wu） and The Rules of Architecture（Ying-Zao-Fa-Shi） are the theoretical basis of pattern study and the basic literature of Chinese pattern study.Besides,the traditional Chinese utensil creation and ornamentation lay the foundation for the research direction and objects of Chinese pattern study by manifesting its role and significance in the contemporary world culture.
