近代西方文化传入中国是从鸦片战争之后开始的,然而只是从新文化运动兴起开始,人们才真正在多元的文化观念下来认识中西或东西文化的,即认为东西文化"如车之两轮,鸟之两翼,缺一不可";对于儒家思想或文化的批判,也并非始于新文化运动,但真正从多元的文化观念出发来批判儒家思想或文化也是从新文化运动开始的。新文化运动之所以要批判孔子及其儒学,原因很多,其中一个重要原因,就是儒学的独尊地位不利于人们的思想解放和文化的多元发展;新文化运动不仅主张中国文化内部"九流并美",共存竞争,反对儒学独尊,而且对西方文化内部的各家各派,持的也是兼容并包、多元共存的开放态度。

After the Opium war,Western cultures was once again spreaded into China.However only started the rise of the new culture movement,People were really to knew the East and West cultures with multicultural concepts,it meant that the relationship between the East and West culture is considered just like birds swings and cars wheels,neither can be cut off.The criticism of Confucianism also not started in the new culture movement,but to criticize Confucianism with the multicultural concepts began in the new culture movement.It has a lot of reasons for people to criticize Confucius and Confucianism in the new culture movement,one of the important reasons is that the exclusive honorable status of Confucianism against people＇s ideological emancipation and the plural cultural development.The new culture movement not only advocated free development of all kinds of ideological trends and their coexistence and competition in Chinese culture,and the exclusive honorable status of Confucianism is opposed,it also hold an open attitude of allinclusive and coexistence to various schools of Western culture.
