心理主义有多种类型,如可分为本体论心理主义与方法论心理主义,而后者又可分为强的方法论心理主义与弱的方法论心理主义,甚至还可再对它做出区分。由于没有认识到可能有多种类型的心理主义,因此弗雷格与胡塞尔对心理主义的批评存在诸多混乱之处。弗雷格或胡塞尔的批评也许对某些类型的心理主义有效,但不对所有类型的心理主义有效。在认识论中,一些心理主义如本体论心理主义也许难以成立,有些心理主义却几乎不可避免。

There are many types of psychologism,and they can be distinguished into ontological psychologism and methodological psychologism. The latter can be distinguished into the strong methodological psychologism and the weak methodological psychologism,and even can be distinguished it further. There is no recognition that there may be many types of psychologism,so there is a lot of confusion in Frege's and Husserl's criticism to psychologism. Frege's and Husserl's criticism may be effective for some types of psychologism,but not for all types of psychological. In epistemology,some of the psychologism,such as ontology psychologism,may be difficult to set up,but some of the psychologism are almost inevitable.
