在快速发展的城市建设和更新过程中,既保留城市传统文化和城市特色,又创造高品质的生活方式,是人居环境研究领域长期关注的课题。重点研究了城市更新中存在的种种误区,指出城市更新与发展要坚持3个核心思想:一是要强调城市发展的合理布局,倡导紧凑发展,因势利导地发掘城市的个性与文化;二是提倡开放式的住区规划思路,主张住区与城市的高度融合;三要强调城市既要"面子",也要"里子",功能性和景观性俱佳,城市才能中看又中用。

How to maintain traditional cultures and features of urban areas while creating high-quality life style in the rapid development of urban construction and renovation remains the task needs to be paid long attention to in the researches of human settlement. It mainly studied various kinds of misunderstandings existed in urban renovation and pointed out 3 pieces of core thoughts in urban renovation and development as follows： firstly strengthening proper redistribution of urban development, encouraging compact development and taking the best use of exploring features and cultures of urban areas, secondly advocating open ideas on neighborhood planning and deep integration of residences and cities, thirdly emphasizing keeping not only face but also lining of cities, namely its functions and landscapes at the same time so that cities could be both pleasant to the eye and functional in use.
