魏源《海国图志》一书以林则徐组织编译的《四洲志》为蓝本,对其增删扩编,内容增加了十之八九,成为当时世界上内容较全面的百科全书,是中国由闭关锁国的封建帝国走向深蓝的海洋和世界的启蒙读本,是中国政治、经济、军事、文化、教育、科技走向近现代化的金钥匙。

Based on The Encyclopaedia of G eography compiled by Lin Zexu,Wei Yuan's World G eography Records increased the content by 80- 90%,and became the most comprehensive encyclopaedia in the w orld. It enlightened the feudal empire w ith blind arrogance of seclusion on the w ay to the deep blue of the sea and the w orld,and became the golden key to modernization of Chinese politics,economy,military,culture,education,science and technology.
