Re-finding the Road Sign:Political Radicalism in Contemporary Russia

尽管激进主义思潮和政治激进主义运动乃至革命浪潮可以迅速调动部分政治资源,短时间内完成社会变革,但往往因激烈社会震荡而留下长期遗患。保守主义强调与传统的继承和联系,在客观上对激进主义发挥制约、纠正、补充和缓冲的作用。俄国历史上的每一次社会变革,保守主义势力与激进主义势力、革命主义主张与改革主义主张都是并存的,而且无论革命的结果还是改革的结果,社会都必须从剧变或渐变中稳定下来,俄国保守主义此时起到的正是这个作用。

Despite that radical thoughts and political radicalism movement or revolution can quickly mobilize certain political resources and complete the social changes in a short time, they often leave long-term problems because of the fierce social turmoil. Conservatism emphasizes the inheritance of and link to the tradition, and practically plays the role of controlling, correcting, complementing and mitigating radicalism. In every revolution in the history of Russia, conservatism and radicalism coexisted, so did revolutionary and reformist ideas; whether it was a result of the revolution or the reform, the society must return to stabilization from the upheaval or gradient changes, and the Russian conservative forces just played that role in the process.
