边沁是功利主义学说的创始人。虽然边沁没有亲自创办过大学,其唯一精心设计的实科中学也未能实现,但该计划所折射的功利主义思想却在高等教育领域实现了。比较与分析边沁设想的"功利日学校"和在其影响下创办的伦敦大学学院,从而得出了以最大多数人的最大幸福为核心、以世俗化和实科化为特征的功利主义大学观。

Jeremy Bentham was the founder of the theory of utilitarianism.Although he didn't found any university personally and failed to realize his only elaborate Realschule,the thought of utilitarianism reflecting from the Chrestomathia School was achieved in the field of higher education.This paper compares and analyzes Bentham's Chrestomathia Day School and University College London,which was set up under the influence of Bentham,and consequently obtains the utilitarianism view of university,which centers on the greatest happiness of the greatest number and is characterized by secularization and natural scientization.
