基于Coxhead学术词汇表浅析英语专业本科毕业论文英文摘要学术词汇的应用

A Lexical Study of Coxhead's AWL Word Families in the Abstract Section of Linguistic Dissertation of English Major Students

学术词汇的学习是英语学习和使用者进行学术研究非常重要和有效的方法。基于此,采用Coxhead在2000年建立的含有570个词族的学术词汇表,通过随机抽样选取50篇英语专业本科生毕业论文英文摘要并依此建立小型语料库进行数据统计的方法,从词汇覆盖度和使用频率两个角度对其学术词汇使用情况进行分析研究,以便探究本科生对学术词汇的掌握和应用情况。研究发现,本科阶段学生对学术词汇的使用不熟练,论文摘要行文中学术词汇的覆盖度和高频学术词汇使用频率都比较低。由此可见,本科阶段学术词汇的教学还应进一步加强,同时学术词汇表所含词汇也应得到更大范围更多学科的丰富和扩充。

Learning academic vocabulary is regarded as an important and effective method for English learners and users with aca- demic purposes. Based on the AWL（Academic Word List） with 570 word families built by Coxhead in 2000, this paper focuses on the corpus of the abstract section of 50 linguistic dissertations by English major graduates, which was found on the basis of random sam- piing, with the purpose of finding the text coverage as well as the frequency of the AWL, in order to get the conception of the usage of AWL among Chinese university students. From the research, it can be seen that the text coverage of these 50 dissertations is not con- sistent with AWL and the frequency of academic words is not high enough, which implies the more emphasis on the teaching of AWL should be scheduled, meanwhile the AWL should be enhanced with more professional academic words of different fields.
