“Emphasizing Contents”: An Intensive Analysis of Wang Ruoxu's Creation Theory

王若虚的主要文学理论都可以视为围绕着"尚意"命题的系统化,从而成为金代文论的高峰。简言之,他发挥了前人"以意为主"的思想,主张贵"天然",重"自得",反对创作中外在成法的束缚,其目的就是避免以辞害意。其意义在于,从文学史的角度来看,他打破了儒家传统的文以载道的桎梏和江西诗派以来的形式束缚,为文学创作倡导更多的自由天地。

Wang Ruoxu＇s main literary theory may be regarded as a systematization of the statement ＂Emphasizing Contents＂,and by this it became the peak of literary theory in Jin Dynasty. In sum,he played the thought＂Focusing on Contents＂of his predecessors,emphasizing on ＂natural expression＂and ＂experience of one＇s own＂. He was against the external bondage in writing so as not to let the words interfere with the contents. From the angle of literature history,the significance is that he made the breakthrough on the traditional theory of＂Writings are for conveying ethics and morality＂and the formalism bondage of＂Jiangxi School＂. By this,he promoted more freedom for literature.
