11—13世纪英国社会所发生的一系列变化都应当归结到人口的增长方面。正是人口的缓慢增长才导致一部分人口从原有的庄园中流出而进入新的环境。这种流出转移的方向在地租形态和城市发展的过程中来看主要是向新垦的土地上进行转移,并以此刺激农产品贸易的发展从而推动这一个时期内的其他变化。
