Before World War II,Karayukisan had once been an important role in the relatively limited number of Japanese immigrants in southeast Asia. As Japan's early expansion pioneers in southeast Asia,Karayukisan laid a certain foundation for Japan's southward expansion. Unlike European powers' overseas expansion which was led by pirates and missionaries,Japan's early expansion was driven primarily by Karayukisan who were living on earnings of prostitution. At that time,Karayukisan were important output with Japanese government's connivance, for the reason that Japanese overseas economic strength was difficult to compete with western colonists. With the rapid growth of Japanese economic strength after the First World War,Karayukisan as pioneer status declined sharply and had to quit the stage of history.
