摘要
原型理论认为,原型在每个历史时代都会发生"置换变形",原型并不是简单地再现神话中的故事或人物,而是在新的社会历史环境中重新被激活,在不同的时代、不同的文化背景下发生了变异而具有了新的特质。运用原型批评理论,通过对尤金·奥尼尔代表剧作《琼斯皇》中主人公布鲁图·琼斯这一人物形象的分析,指出琼斯实质是非英雄的"美国亚当"形象,揭示出二十世纪初美国社会中"美国梦"的变异以及主人公追梦的幻灭。
The archetypal theory holds that archetypes are displaced in different ages so that they are not mere repetition of mythical stories or characters. Instead,archetypes will be activated in the new social and historical environment and transform into new shapes. Applying this theory to the analysis of the main character,Brutus Jones,this paper argues that Jones is a non-hero＂American Adam＂. It discloses the changes of＂American Dream＂in the early 20 th century and the disillusion of Jones＇ dream.
