Bookmill in Song dynasty,which exerted a very important position and influence in the history of publishing in China,had made a great contribution to carry forward the national spirit and spread the Chinese civilization. This article expounds the successful causes and historical role of the development of song dynasty bookshop by analyzing the development scale of bookmills in northern Song Dynasty and Southern Song Dynast. Inscribing as a complementary and auxiliary of official engraving occupied the important position in engraving printing industry.
