20世纪30年代汉口“模范图书馆”筹建始末

民国时期,图书馆作为社会教育的中心机关得到政府的高度重视,汉口作为"全国交通之中点",其图书馆事业取得了长足发展。20世纪30年代,筹建"模范图书馆"成为汉口市政府和知识分子的理想。模范图书馆的筹建先后经过了调查研究、规划设计、具体筹备等阶段,并成立了汉口市图书馆筹备委员会,专门负责筹建事宜。汉口市政府、各社会团体、民间机构以及广大市民为筹建模范图书馆付出了艰辛努力,但由于政府财力有限、寄托于中英庚款补助,加之日本全面侵华战争爆发,建立模范图书馆的梦想无奈破灭。

In the Republic of China,as the central authorities of public education,the library had caught high attention of the government.As the nation＇s transportation center,the librarianship of Hankou had maken considerable progress.In the 1930 s,to build a ＂model library＂ was a good ideal for Hankou government and intellectuals.It had gone through the phases of research,planning and design,specific preparatory,and organized the Preparatory Committee of Hankou City Library,which was responsible for the preparation matters.Hankou municipal government,social organizations,private institutions and the general public had maken hard work to build the model library,however,due to limited government financial resources,over-reliance on Sino-British Boxer Indemnity subsidies,and then Japan＇s full-scale invasion war broke out,the dream of establishing the model library was shattered.
