The front drive shaft of passenger car is a key part in vehicle, the selection and design of the drive shaft structure directly affects the vehicle performance and reliability. In this paper, based on the long-term design experience, the design method and experience values were given from drive shaft angle layout, a universal joint selection, sliding and swing angle analysis, life, strength and spline fit to provide a comprehensive design essentials of drive shaft for vehicle designers, therefore it can be used to improve design quality and to meet the vehicle performance requirements further.
