Cultural Differences of Chinese and American Leaders' Inaugural Speeches from the Perspective of Critical Discourse Analysis

领导人就职演讲是具有社会性质的语言符号,而批评话语分析旨在揭示语言、意识形态和权利的关系,其中文化就是社会意识形态的体现。系统功能语言学也为批评话语分析提供了方法论,以批评话语分析的理论为基础,从概念功能的分类系统和人际功能的情态系统分析语言的差异性,从而指出习近平和奥巴马就职演讲背后的中美文化差异。

The leaders＇ inaugural speech is the symbols of language with the social nature, and critical discourse analysis aims to reveal the relationship among language, ideology and power, in which culture is a social ideology. Systemic functional linguistics provides a methodology for critical discourse analysis, so this article analyzes the difference of language from the classification system of ideational function and modality system of interpersonal function including in critical discourse analysis theory, which will explain the latent Sino-US cultural differences in Xi Jinping＇s and Obama＇s inaugural address.
