Objective To study the effect of Polyethylene Glycol Electrolyte Powder administered orally by 3 Methods for the preoperative bowel preparation on the degree of comfort in patients with gynecological surgery. Methods 166 patients underwent surgery in Department of Gynecology of our hospital from December 2012 to July 2013 were randomly divided into 3 groups, group A(53 cases), group B(56 cases), and group C(57 cases). Group A and Group B respectively orally took two packs of Polyethylene Glycol Electrolyte Powder at 19:30 pm, 16:00 pm 1 d before the gynecologic surgery. Group C orally took 1 pack of Polyethylene Glycol Electrolyte Powder at 16:00 pm and 19:30 pm, respectively 1 d before the gynecologic surgery. The evaluations are made according to the degree of comfort and side effects during and after the medication. Results The difference in the incidence of side effects and degree of comfort between the 3 groups was not statistically significant(P〈0.05). The incidence of side effects after medication was much higher than that during medication [44.6 %(74cases) vs 29.5%(49 cases)]. The major side effects were nausea, stomach discomfort, bad palatability and dizziness. Conclusion The degree of comfort decreases with the increase of the incidence of side effects, so the medication instruction of Polyethylene Glycol Electrolyte Powder should be strengthened in order to reduce the discomfort, improve the degree of comfort and effect of bowel cleaning.
