Objective To explore the effect of modified Sijunzi decoction on pulmonary function and quality of life of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease( COPD). Methods 65 cases with moderate to severe COPD were chosen and divided into control group and observation group according to the random number table in our hospital from December 2012 to January 2014. The control group was given western medicine while the observation group was given modified Sijunzi decoction on basis of western medicine. The vital capacity( FVC),forced expiratory volume in one second( FEV1) and FEV1/ FVC% were detected by lung function instrument before and after the treatment respectively. The clinical symptoms, exercise tolerance and quality of life were evaluated using CAT table, six minutes walking distance( 6MWT) and the St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire( SGRQ). Results Compared with pro- treatment, the FVC,FEV1,FEV1/ FVC% and 6MWT increased significantly while CAT score, respiratory symptoms, activity limitation, disease influence score and total score of SGRQ significantly decreased( P 0. 05) in the two groups after treatment; compared with the control group after treatment,FVC,FEV1,FEV1/FVC% and 6MWT was higher while CAT score, respiratory symptoms, limitation of activity and SGRQ score were lower( P 〈0. 05). Conclusion Modified Sijunzi decoction can improve the pulmonary function and quality of life of patients with moderate to severe COPD.
