孔子学院对中国对外直接投资的影响研究

The Effects of the Confucius Institute on China's OFDI

本文作者利用2004-2012年中国对外直接投资宏观区位面板数据,考察了孔子学院对中国对外直接投资的影响。研究结果发现,总体上,孔子学院作为中国对外文化交流的综合平台,对中国对外直接投资具有显著积极作用。进一步的研究发现,孔子学院助推中国对外直接投资的作用机制主要表现为通过文化交流互鉴降低了中外文化差异的负面影响,以及通过促进国际友好合作对东道国制度环境的保护作用存在替代效应。同时,本文作者发现,孔子学院对中国对外直接投资的影响存在异质性条件约束,在文化差异较小或制度质量较低的东道国,孔子学院的作用更加显著。

Based on the 2004-2012 panel data of China＇s OFDI destinations,this paper investigates how the Confucius Institute affects China＇s OFDI. The results show that, as a platform for cultural exchange, the Confucius Institute has a significant positive effect on China＇s OFDI. Further, there are two ways in which the Confucius Institute promotes China＇s OFDI. On the one hand, the Confucius Institute reduces the negative impact stemming from cultural differences between China and the host country through cultural exchange and mutual understanding. On the other hand, it exerts a substitution effect on the host country＇s institutional environment. At the same time, there are heterogeneity constraints on Confucius Institute＇s effects on China＇s OFDI. It plays a more significant role in host countries with whom China has fewer cultural differences or countries whose institutions are of a lesser quality.
