摘要
据统计,改革开放三十多年以来,我国累计已有超过5000万大学生达到了大学英语基础阶段的基本教学要求,具备相当程度的英语听说读写能力:他们的英语阅读速度已达到每分钟70~100英语词,能够通过阅读获取专业所需信息。在这些学生中有相当一部分是高端学生,为他们开设EAP课程的问题近年来已经引起我国英语教学界的重视。这是因为从掌握基础英语到在实际学术交流中准确地使用英语,还有一个能力迁移的问题。可以预期,随着中学生英语水平的提高,这样的学生会愈来愈多,EAP课程甚至有可能成为我国大学英语教学的主流,这是大学英语课程历史发展的必然。通过讨论EAP课程的任务与构成要素,以及开展EAP研究和EAP教学方法研究的必要性,以期提高EAP课程的有效性和效率。
Statistics show that in the past 30 years of Open and Reform over 50 million students have cumulatively been qualified in CET 4 and CET 6 tests. Their English ability has met the basic teaching objectives as listed in the National College English Teaching Syllabus. Take English reading ability for instance, the qualified students can access information necessary for their respective specialities with a reading speed of 70-100 w. p. m. As a result, the need to provide advanced EAP courses for advanced students has recently received wide attention in the EFL circles. This is because there is a need of ability transfer from the command of Basic English to effective and appropriate communication in the international academic community. This paper discusses the components involved in effective teaching of EAP courses and the necessity of EAP research.
