OBJECTIVE To observe the effect of sequential therapy of moxifloxacin on treatment of elderly patients with lower respiratory tract infections and study the influence on the expression of interleukins so as to provide guidance for effective treatment of the elderly patients with lower respiratory tract infections.METHODS A total of 150 elderly patients with lower respiratory tract infections who were treated in the hospital from Feb 2014 to Aug 2015 were enrolled in the study and randomly divided into the control group and the observation group,with75 cases in each. The observation group was treated with sequential therapy of moxifloxacin, while the control group was given ceftazidime. The clinical therapeutic effects and levels of serum interleukins(IL)were observed and compared between the two groups of patients.RESULTS The total effective rate was 97.33%in the observation group,84.00% in the control group. The levels of serum IL-6,IL-8,and IL-10 of the observation group were respectively(13.5±7.3)pg/ml,(18.3±6.3)pg/ml,and(12.3±7.1)pg/ml after the treatment for 7days,significantly lower than those of the control group, and there was significant difference between the two groups(P〈0.05).CONCLUSIONThe effect of the sequential therapy of moxifloxacin is better than that of ceftazidime on treatment of the elderly patients with lower respiratory tract infections,it can shorten the time of disappearance of symptoms and promote the rapid recovery of patients.
