The Differences of the Principles of Chinese and English Manners in Cross-cultural Communication

经济全球化在全世界的迅速扩展,使得跨文化交际变得越来越重要。在跨文化交际过程中,礼貌成为一项十分重要的元素。中国和讲英语的国家由于不同的文化背景不可避免地在礼貌原则方面存在着差异。本文通过分析中国和讲英语国家遵从的礼貌原则,指导我们在跨文化交际当中正确使用礼貌原则,避免在跨文化交际中因为英汉礼貌原则的差异而造成的交际失败,提高跨文化交际的能力。

Along with the rapid expansion of economic globalization, cross-cultural communication is becoming more and more important in the world. In the process of cross-cultural communication, courtesy becomes a very important element. However, the politeness principles of different countries are different. As China and other English-speaking countries have different culture backgrounds, there are some differences in the principles of manners inevitably. This thesis reveals some differences in the principles of Chinese and English manners and examples out of some performance of differences in English and Chinese culture by analyzing the principles that observed by the Chinese people and the English-speaking people to guide us in the proper use of the politeness principle in cross-cultural communication, to avoid communication failures in cross-cultural communication that caused by the differences of the principles of Chinese and English manners, and to improve cross-cultural communication capabilities.
