This paper introduced the common measurerment methods of bamboo timber density and their characteristics, described the variation patterns of bamboo timber density and the main mechanisms causing the variation, and furthermore discussed the effect of density variations on mechanical properties of bamboo timber and bamboo-based composites. These accomplishments are of great reference value for further study of the density of bamboo timber as well as of its application for processing and utilization.
