《清谈万选》现存两个版本;从《昙阳仙师》"相国"一词,结合版本,可以断定它出版于万历十三年至十七年夏之间;本书的编者为林世吉;小说题材的主体来源为《鸳渚志异雪窗谈异》和《湖海奇闻集》。
There exist two versions of Complete Collection of Ancient Tales. Judging from the term ＂xiangguo＂ （prime minister） in ＂Immortal Master Tanyang＂ and the version, it is likely to conclude that Complete Collection of Ancient Tales was published between 13th year to 17th （1585-1589） year of the reign of Wanli Emperor. It is compiled by Lin Shiji. The main parts of the novel are adopted from the legendary stories of Peculiar Tales by the Snow Window and Fantastic Stories of Lake And Sea.
