Electrical status epilepticus during sleep (ESES) is a peculiar electroencephalography pattern in children, characterized by paroxysmal activity significantly activated during sleep, typically in the period of NREM (non-rapid eye movement). ESES is related to various epilepsy syndromes, especially common in landau-Kleffner syndrome, ABECTS, and CSWS, which results in neuropsyehological impairment. This article is aim to review the recent progress in the field of electroencephalogram(EEG), pathogenesis, neuropsychological impairment, and treatment of ESES.
