Taking narrative as its central concern, narratology is the study of narrative. Accordingly, the starting point of narratology is the knowledge and recognition of the concept "narrative". To answer the question "how to study narrative?", we must first of all answer the question "what is narrative?". At the levels of "representation of events", "text typology" and "interdisciplinary perspective", this paper not only examines a vadety of definitions of narrative from the structuralism to the present, but also reviews the nature of the debate of this concept. Finally, it tries to redefine narrative as a meaningful sequence based on a certain media.
